Late spring is one of the most beautiful times to find yourself in northern Wyoming. Around this time of year, the snow pack deposited through the winter months begins to make its way in to the streams. Runoff length depends on the size of the watershed, type of stream, temperatures at elevation, and, of course, how much snow is really up there!
On streams like Rock Creek, runoff can be as short as a couple weeks. On giant western rivers like the Yellowstone and Snake, runoff can last much longer than that. However, a lot of western rivers remain fishable throughout these runoff periods. Just think deep and slow, and you'll be sure to tie in to some trout.
What do you do when everything looks good except the water? Well, first take a look at the scenery around you...

And second, check your indicator, because fish like this are eating anyways!
